Tunez – Bobbie Gentry – Ode To Billie Joe

I’ll have another piece of apple pie…

Ode To Billie Joe is perhaps one of my favourite songs of all time. Written and performed by the flawless Bobbie Gentry, this Southern Gothic tells the tale of Billie Joe jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge. A truly beautiful country classic, the song sparked an incredible amount of speculation as to why Billie Joe jumped from the bridge – a film was even produced in 1976 – though the mystery of Ode To Billie Joe has never been solved.

At the time, Bobbie Gentry was one of the first female country singers to write and perform her own music. Her ode won numerous awards – a total of eight Grammy nominations.

I hope that you enjoy the song as much as I do.

Wishing you a happy Easter – Ziggy.
